The Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to officially recognise the AADHAAR number cards as a valid identity and residence proof for availing various services in the state.
"The state government has decided to officially recognise the AADHAAR numbers being given to the residents as valid proof of identity (POI) as well as proof of address (POA) for availing various services", Additional Secretary in the J&K government, G R Mir has said in an order.
The Government of India has established the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) for issuing AADHAAR numbers to all citizens, with the capability to authenticate the identity of the card holder anywhere in the country, he said.
The Information Technology Department in coordination with the Census is functioning as the nodal department to carry out enrollment of the citizens for giving unique identity - - AADHAAR, Mir said.
The enrollment is presently going on through out the state, Mir said.
It is, accordingly, enjoined upon all the departments to ensure that the AADHAAR number is adopted as a valid identity and residence document, the officer added.
