AAI Chairman V P Agarwal received the award from Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit at a function here.
"The AAI won the prestigious award for introducing the use of eco-friendly handcrafted recycled paper and paper products within the organisation, which are produced in the paper recycling unit," an AAI spokesperson said.
The Golden Peacock Eco-Innovation award is given every year to the most innovative product as determined by satisfaction of customers' long-term needs and aspirations in most cost effective manner.
AAI, in association with Kalyanmayee -- the Women Welfare Association, has started this unique initiative in 2009. President of Kalyanmayee, Archna Agarwal pioneered the inception of the project and significantly contributed to the setting up of the paper recycling unit here, the spokesperson said.
AAI has become the first public sector unit to establish the paper recycle unit to support the Government recycle Office Waste (GROW) programme.
The unit converts paper waste from AAI offices across the country into useful stationery products like file covers, file folders, visiting cards, envelopes, letterheads, corporate gifts, calendars and several other paper products.
"Earlier, the paper waste was being dumped or sold. Now the unit caters to the stationery needs of AAI offices situated across the country," he said.
