The 47-year-old was scheduled to leave for Chicago on August 3 for "Dhoom 3" shooting but postponed it later as the family planned to throw a birthday party for Nikhat.
Aamir has been busy juggling his TV show "Satyamev Jayate", Reema Kagti's "Talaash and "Dhoom 3".
"Aamir's sister is celebrating her 50th birthday on August 3 but the actor was scheduled to leave for Chicago on the same night with the entire team. He was planning to celebrate Rakhi which falls on the previous day. However, the entire family planned to have a lavish party in the night.
"When heard about the party, he requested Victor( 'Dhoom 3' director) and Aditya Chopra if he would be allowed to leave a day late," a source said.
The actor will now leave on August 4 for Chicago.
The spokesperson of Aamir confirmed the news and said, "Yes, the family reunion is happening."
"Dhoom 3" will see Aamir and Katrina Kaif working together for the first time on-screen while Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra will reprise the role of cops.
