AAP accuses BJP's Tiwari of 'mocking' people queueing for cash

Press Trust of India New Delhi
Aam Aadmi Party today accused Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari of making light of difficulties in the wake of demonetisation after a video surfaced showing him narrating how he pacified a group of people queueing for cash by hailing them as "patriots".

Delhi Water Minister Kapil Mishra shared the small clip on Twitter which went viral across social media platforms. In his defence, Tiwari wondered how terming someone as patriot was insulting.

In the video, Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta and few others are huddled around a table where Tiwari is seen engaged in a casual chat and also crooning few self-composed lines.

"I saw people standing in a queue. I thought what should I say to please them and later hailed them as patriots and how they were shaping India's future which made them happy," says Tiwari.

Sharing the clip, Mishra wrote, "Explosive sting of Manoj Tiwari making fun of Delhi people...Shameless and disgusting". It was retweeted by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and hundreds of others.

However, Tiwari questioned AAP saying how was terming somebody as "patriot" akin to ridiculing them. AAP is "rattled" by my visit to several unauthorised colonies in the city, he said.

"How calling somebody a patriot amounts to mocking him? If someone is standing in the queue despite facing problems then why can I not call them patriot? Wherever I went, I found people in queues despite distress and only those who are concerned for the country can do so," Tiwari said.

"Actually, I have released four videos of Inderpuri slum dwelling showing hellish living conditions. Now, the AAP is rattled by this and they are trying to divert the issue," he said.
