Reacting strongly to the recently reported statement of Punjab Agriculture Minister Tota Singh that farmers' suicide was a routine affair, the Aam Aadmi Party today demanded his resignation.

In a joint statement, G S Kang and Ahbaab Singh Grewal, President and General Secretary of AAP Kisaan and Labour Wing, stated that the Agriculture Minister is responsible for the pesticides scam due to which fake pesticides were procured and distributed to the farmers leading to destruction of cotton crops by white flies.

The Minister also failed in providing adequate compensation to the affected farmers due to which they are committing suicides all over the state, they claimed.

"On top of that, by mocking their deaths and helplessness by calling it a routine affair, Tota Singh has lost all moral rights to continue as the Minister of Agriculture. We demand his immediate resignation and dismissal from the Government," they added.

Ahbaab Grewal also said that Tota Singh has ridiculed the power of the farmers in the state but he would experience their real power and might in an agitation to be launched soon by the Aam Aadmi Party.

The Badal Government and its ministers are intoxicated with their own power but the might of the people of Punjab would soon be evident in showing them the door, they said.
