Press Trust of India Ludhiana
Aam Aadmi Party activists today held a protest march against the gang-rape of a 21-year-old girl here.

The protest was held outside the Police Commissioner's office and then a silent march was carried out towards the Deputy Commissioner's office, a statement issued by AAP said.

AAP Ludhiana Convener Ahbaab Singh Grewal said the protest was held to highlight the increasing number of rape cases and other crimes against women in the city and the state.

The 21-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped in a moving car after she was kidnapped by three youths from the posh Raj Guru Nagar locality here on Saturday night.

One of the three accused was nabbed by police yesterday.

AAP activists handed over a memorandum to the Ludhiana Police Commissioner, demanding the immediate arrest of the remaining two accused.

They also sought reduction of police personnel on VIP duties and their deployment towards securing the general public and women in particular.

AAP demanded that the police be sensitised to "make them realise" that the security of the common man is as important as that of VIPs'.

The police commissioner assured them of action and taking concrete steps in this regard.
