AAP legislator Jarnail Singh today wrote to Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik seeking tougher punitive action against a traffic violator who refused to stop his SUV even after a constable clung to the bonnet of the vehicle in west Delhi.
The Tilak Nagar MLA expressed angst in his letter that the offender was allowed to go after a mere challan and said it would have a "demoralising effect on the Traffic police person concerned".
"Please carry out a fair investigation so that the guilty is brought to book and the brave traffic police official's stand is vindicated," he said in his letter.
A video of the incident that showed the traffic policeman clinging to the bonnet of the moving vehicle has also been submitted to the police by Singh.
The incident occurred at Naraina floyover on July 10 evening when the traffic personnel tried to stop a violator. The culprit continued to drive even as a constable tried to stop him and clung to the bonnet.
Police maintained that the violator was issued a challan as per law.
