Disgruntled AAP volunteer Jagdeep Rana, who was thrashed allegedly by AAP MLAs outside the Delhi Assembly after he hurled pamphlets today, had contested the 2013 Assembly polls on a party ticket, but had recently aligned himself with rebel AAP MLA Kapil Mishra, party sources said.

In his debut contest in 2013 from the Adarsh Nagar Assembly constituency in northwest Delhi, Rana was defeated by his nearest BJP rival Ram Kishan Singhal by 9,923 votes.

Rana and his aide Rajan Kumar hurled pamphlets inside the Delhi Assembly while a session of the House was underway, leading to some AAP MLAs thrashing the duo.

The two were rushed to the city government-run Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital from the Assembly premises.

Rana and Kumar have been sentenced to 30-day rigorous imprisonment by Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel.
