A new-born boy was today found abandoned behind bushes near a posh colony at Sector 7 here, police said.

The child, wrapped in a plastic bag, was spotted in a wounded condition by a passerby of a nearby locality. She then informed the police, who admitted the infant to civil hospital, they said.

Civil surgeon Dr Vinod Gupta said the child was brought in a serious condition and had sustained a serious injury on his body.

A dog or some other animal might have bitten him as there was bleeding from his wound, he said.

The new-born was later shifted referred to PGIMER in Chandigarh.

A case has been registered, police said, adding it was not yet ascertained who left the child near the bushes.
