ABB bags order from Alstom for transformers supply

ABB has won an order from Alstom to supply 1600 traction transformers for 800 new electric freight locomotives in India.

The new locomotives will expand Indian Railways' capacity, easing congestion on busy routes for both freight and passenger services, ABB India informed the BSE.

The transformers will be manufactured locally in ABB's Vadodara facility in Gujarat, supporting the government's 'Make in India' initiative to encourage manufacturing in the country.

Indian Railways operates the largest rail network in Asia, and is the world's second-largest rail network operated under single management.

The company moves more than 12,500 trains and 23 million passengers daily, equivalent to the population of Australia.

IIMB, Goldman Sachs announce launch of women startup programme * Bengaluru: The N S Raghavan Centre forEntrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL) at the Indian Institute ofManagement Bangalore (IIMB), with the support of global investment bank Goldman Sachs today announced the official launch of the WomenStartup Programme.

The programme, which will be offered at no cost and is open to all aspiring women entrepreneurs, seeks to encourage and support women to start their own businesses through a customized, three phase model which incorporates online and classroom training as well as business incubation, IIMB said in a release.

It said the coursework will teach both entrepreneurial and managerial skills, provide mentoring and networking opportunities, and access to capital to help empower women navigate their early ventures as well as equip them with toolsto strategize and grow their businesses.

L&T Mutual Fund, KidZania launch financial literacy corner * With a theme of financial literacy, savings and investments, L&T Mutual Fund in collaboration with a theme park KidZania launched a financial literacy corner in the KidZania premises.

With an impetus on investments, kids will gain knowledge on the concepts of 'earn, save, invest and spend' through fun games and interactions. KidZania, in its Mumbai unit, has establishments that are quintessential to Mumbai like the 'Dabbawala', a company statement said.
