A minor girl, who was kidnapped by a youth from Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district earlier this week, was on Saturday rescued from Shopian district, a senior police officer said.
The prime accused, Mehboob Manhas of Chandimarh village, was arrested during the operation, said Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajouri, Yougal Manhas.
The girl was abducted from Jawahar Nagar in Rajouri three days ago and subsequently a case was registered at the local police station, he said.
"Soon after the registration of the case, a police team launched an investigation. Four persons, who were suspected to have helped the prime accused in abducting the girl, were detained and questioned," Manhas said.
Following a tip-off, a special team was rushed to Shopian district in south Kashmir and the girl was rescued. The prime accused was also arrested during the operation, he said.
The girl's family members and relatives had on Friday staged a protest.
