22-year-old Ravi Kumar, a third year civil engineering student of NIT Patna was abducted from the state capital on June 23 by abductors who had called his family members and demanded a ransom of Rs 20 lakh, the sources said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) Sushil Kumar claimed that the abductors, apparently under sustained pressure from the police, released Ravi Kumar at an isolated place in Patna district.

After he was released by his abductors, Kumar contacted the police who brought him over to Patna, the DSP said, adding that his family members have been informed about the safe release of the student.

The police had lodged a case in this connection and arrested a suspected abductor, the DSP added.
