Abducted teacher rescued in Meghalaya

An abducted school teacher was rescued unharmed by police after a brief exchange of fire with his abductors in Sasatgre area of West Garo Hills district in Meghalaya, police said today.

Utpal Dey was rescued from a makeshift camp of the A'chik Songna An'pachakgipa Kotok (ASAK) militants when police commandos launched a special rescue mission in a jungle in the village and after a brief exchange of fire with the militants about 9:30 PM last night, Superintendent of Police Mukesh Singh said.

Taking advantage of darkness, the militants left hurriedly leaving the abductee behind. No one was injured in the incident, the SP said.
 

Dey, a teacher at Dalu Higher Secondary School, was abducted at gun point while he was on his way to school from Tura town around 7 AM on Monday.

A man hunt was launched to arrest those involved in the abduction of the school teacher.
