The driver and handyman of an oil tanker, who were allegedly abducted by miscreants 10 days back, were today rescued unharmed, officials said.

Eastern Nagaland Public Organisation (ENPO), an apex body of tribal organisations, said that the duo was rescued following the pursuance of a five-member team of the organization.

The rescue team was headed by the ENPO president Koiwang Konyak, ENPO vice president Kekongchim told PTI.

The two were allegedly abducted from Helipong village of Tuensang district on April 22.

Various bodies of the petroleum transporters and retailers in Nagaland had called an indefinite shutdown on Monday after its 48-hour deadline served to the state government demanding safe rescue of oil tanker driver Tularam Buragohain and helper Adman Surin ended.

However, they had called off the strike the next day as they decided against inconveniencing the public.

Kekongchim said the abducted persons, who were taken to an undisclosed location, were released unharmed this morning.
