NC today welcomed the decision of Election Commission putting in abeyance the appointment of Vice Chairpersons to 16 corporations and PSUs by the PDP-BJP government after Model Code of Conduct (MCI) came into effect for bypolls to Srinagar and Anantnag Lok Sabha seats.

"We hope the coalition government will take the message of ECI loud and clear and desist from violating the MCI or misusing official machinery," Provincial NC President Nasir Aslam Wani said in a statement issued from the party headquarters here.

National Conference (NC) had lodged strong protest to the Election Commission, soon after the state government appointed 16 functionaries of the ruling alliance PDP and BJP as Vice Chairpersons of various Corporations and PSUs on March 10.

The EC has asked the state government to defer the appointments of 16 Vice-Chairmen or Chairpersons (VC) of the Public Sector Enterprises (PSE) till the completion of process for bye-elections in Srinagar and Anantnag Parliamentary Constituencies.

"The appointments of 16 Vice-Chairmen/Chairpersons of the Public Sector Enterprises may be deferred till the completion of election process and if any formal orders have been issued on or after March 9, the date of announcement of bye-elections in Srinagar and Anantnag Parliamentary Constituencies in the State, the same may be rescinded with immediate effect," an official spokesman said quoting a communique from ECI addressed to Chief Electoral Officer, J&K.
