Drawing an analogy from the epic Mahabharata, senior INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala Wednesday urged people to make his son Arjun victorious in the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha seat to save him from "Kaurava-like opponents".
The BJP has fielded its Haryana minister Nayab Saini from the parliamentary constituency, the Congress has nominated Nirmal Singh while Jaibhagwan Sharma is the candidate of Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), which was formed after the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) split last year following a feud within the Chautala family.
"We have fielded Arjun to fight your battle. If he is to be saved from Kaurava-like opponents then you will have to vote for him and make him victorious. With this the Kauravas will be eliminated," Abhay Singh Chautala told people at election meetings in Kalayat and Pundri, under the Kurukshetra seat.
Addressing a public meeting in Kurukshetra recently, Arjun Chautala had said, "In Mahabharata, Arjun (the third of the Pandava brothers) did not want to fight, but Lord Krishna convinced him to fight and win. Likewise, this Arjun was taking care of agricultural farms, but call of duty made him jump into the poll fray in this land of Mahabharata."
In an indirect reference to the split within the INLD last year and a few of its sitting and former legislators switching over to other parties, Abhay Singh Chautala said, "The entire country is INLD's family and sometimes problems do arise in families, but there is no need to be perturbed."
"You all are our family and together we will make INLD's flag flutter high," he told the gatherings.
INLD's sitting legislator from Mewat region Naseem Ahmed switched over to the Congress on Tuesday. Earlier, two of party's sitting MLAs -- Ranbir Gangwa and Kehar Singh -- had joined the BJP.

Four INLD MLAs had switched sides and announced their support to the fledgling Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), which was launched by Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala, the elder son of Abhay Chautala's brother Ajay Chautala.
At the election meetings, Abhay Singh Chautala hit out at the BJP over its "Rs 15 lakh promise, failing to implement the Swaminathan Commission report and address SYL issue".
"Since the beginning, INLD has been raising voice of the farmers, weaker sections of the society, the poor and fighting for their cause," he said.
Abhay Singh Chautala also accused the saffron party of practising "divisive politics".
The INLD leader exuded confidence that his party will win all the 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana and after Vidhan Sahba elections later this year will form government in the state on its own.
INLD's candidate for the Kurukshetra seat, 26-year-old Arjun Chautala is the third grandson of INLD supremo and former chief minister Om Prakash Chautala.
O P Chautala's two other grandsons, Dushyant and Digvijay are fighting as candidates of the JJP from Hisar and Sonipat seats, respectively.
