ABHM Vice President S S Sai Baba and two others mentioned their pleas before a bench of Acting Chief Justice A K Sikri for initiation of contempt proceedings against the MLA, his associates, the police chief and several Central government officials.
They sought launch of contempt proceedings against them saying they had failed to cordon off the site despite the court ordering it on Friday.
"It was also found that prayers / sermons / speeches were being delivered from the illegally fabricated structure," said Baba in the contempt plea claiming that he had visited the area on Saturday, a day after the court restrained people from entering the site.
The court on July 20 had asked the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to take over the possession of the site and ascertain if the Akbarabadi Masjid, whose purported ruins were found there, did exist there.
ABHM members filed contempt plea against MLA Iqbal, councillor NDMC (North Delhi Municipal Corporation), Jama Masjid Imam, DMRC chairman, MCD commissioner, police chief and Home ministry officials. (More)
