Miscreants made an abortive bid to break open a donation box inside a Gurudwara in central Kashmir's Budgam district, police said today.

"On the intervening night of March 24 and 25, an attempt was made to break open the donation box of a Gurudwara at Khampora Sarai in Chadoora area of Budgam," a police spokesman said.

He said police have registered a case under relevant sections and started investigations into the incident.

"For a speedy probe and to nab the culprits, a special investigation team under the supervision of ASP Budgam has been constituted," the spokesman said.

The security at the Gurudwara had been strengthened.

The Deputy Commissioner and District Superintendent of Police visited the spot and assured the Sikh community that the culprits will brought to book as soon as possible and all measures will be taken so that such incidents do not recur.

Meanwhile, All Parties Sikh Coordination Commitee chairman Jagmohan Raina has condemned the incident and demanded an impartial probe for bringing the culprits to the book.

"It seems to be a conspiracy to damage the communal harmony in Kashmir which needs to be nipped in the bud," Raina added.
