At least a dozen protesters sustained injuries after police resorted to cane-charge to prevent agitating government employees from moving towards the house of UT Chandigarh Administrator and Governor of Punjab and Haryana for submitting charter of demands.

Under the banner of 'UT Government Employees CHB Housing Welfare Society', a large number of government employees today held a protest rally at Sector 25, pressing for their demand of flats under self-finance housing scheme 2008.

After no representative of UT Chandigarh Administration came to the rally ground to meet agitating employees, they started moving towards Solanki's house.

However, UT Chandigarh police, which had already barricaded the area in the wake of proposed visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 11 here, tried to stop them.

In the melee, police used force to disperse the protesters and about 10 to 12 government employees were injured, said Dharmendra, General Secretary of society.

SP City Parvinder Singh said the employees had organised the rally without prior permission.

Later, SDM (Central) Prince Dhawan met representatives of the employees and invited them for talks tomorrow to resolve the issue.

The protesters also warned that if their demands were not met, they will show black flags to the Prime Minister when he visits city on September 11.

The protesting employees have been demanding that Chandigarh Housing Board should set up a housing complex for government employees in the city.
