About 16 lakh ration card holders in Mizoram

The population of Mizoram according to the ration cards issued by the state Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department was 15,91,533, the government informed the assembly today.

Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister John Rotluanga, replying to a question from Lalrinawma of the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) informed the House that there were 2,79,784 ration cards in the state and the number of people registered in the rations cards were 15,91,533.

He said that there were 1,99,143 people who availed rice through ration cards from the PDS as BPL members and 1,15,733 people as Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) members. Similarly the number of people under APL were 12.76,657.
 

Rotluanga expressed hope that the government would be able to arrive at the exact number of people availing essential commodities through the PDS after implementation of the end to end computerisation scheme.
