Above Rs nine lakh in demonetised notes seized

The police today seized more than Rs nine lakh in demonetised notes from four persons travelling in Siliguri-bound car at Darjeeling More here.

The police said that during a search of vehicles ahead of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's visit to north Bengal starting from tomorrow, demonetised currency worth Rs 9,47,000 was seized.

Siliguri Deputy Commissioner of Police Songmit Lepcha said that the four persons were arrested.

The money included 1,494 500 rupee notes and 200 pieces of 1,000 rupee notes, the DCP said.
