The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) today continued their demonstration for the second consecutive day here, pressing for its demand for a separate state comprising areas inhibited by Bodo community in Assam.
The protesters, mostly from Assam, took out a procession from Rajghat to Jantar Mantar where ABSU leaders addressed the gathering.
The National Democratic Front of Bodoland and People's Joint Action Committee for Boroland Movement (PJACBM) also joined the ABSU in demanding a separate state for the Bodo community.
ABSU president Pramod Boro said the organisation will step up their agitation if the Centre does not initiate steps to fulfil the community's demand for Bodoland.
Alleging that Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was not sympathetic towards the Bodo community, he said the movement is to protect, preserve and safeguard the identity of the Boro and other tribal people.
"We want to live with dignity and honour in our land. The Bodo people have been subjected to exploitation, suppression, oppression and the ordeal must end," he said.
The ABSU has also sent a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking his immediate intervention in initiating the process for formation of the separate state.
"BJP had promised that the Boro problem would be resolved if the party comes to power. But nothing has been done to fulfill the promise," Boro said.
