There are abundant opportunities for anybody who is willing to work in today's "different" India, a top official of Bengaluru-based Fenuca India said today.

"As long as you have a skill and passion, there is a path to success," Sonali G Kulkarni, President and CEO, FANUC India, said during an award giving function of PSG College of Technology for the engineering stream here.

Stating that back in 1986, opportunities were slim and the size of India's economy was about one-eighth of what it is today and growth rate was a low 4.8 per cent, Sonali, who is the grand daughter of Mahatma Gandhi, said "In fact, the only acceptable profession was engineering or medicine."

In the IT industry, huge volumes of low end jobs were now simply done by software, she said adding India's largest employers, the IT firms were cutting back on the volume of hiring.

"It means that you need to be very good and need to have a strategy for your career.

She also shared a few principles, which had helped her navigate life, like not to resort to short cuts and not to be shallow.
