Visalkumar 19, along with other students was welcoming the new-comers in front of a college in Cheganoore when he was attacked yesterday, police said.
He succumbed to injuries at a government hospital here, police said adding no arrests has been made, as yet, in this connection.
A hartal called by ABVP and BJP in the district today protesting the attack was total with shops and business establishments remaining closed. Most of the educational institutions also did not function.
