At least a dozen Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) workers including its district unit chief, were arrested for allegedly violating model code of conduct here in the poll bound state, police said.

A case has been registered against 12 ABVP workers, including its district president Pravin Dwivedi, for staging protests last Saturday, without official permission, Raigarh City Superintendent of Police Satyendra Pandey told PTI.

On October 26, around 60 ABVP workers led by Dwivedi had staged a protest against the Congress-led UPA government in connection with the coal scam and burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Later, the sub-divisional magistrate had informed the police in a report, that they did not take permission for the protest, after which action was taken, he said.

Besides Dwivedi, ABVP district convener Pradip Rathore and joint convener Sumit Sharma are among others who have been arrested, he said.
