Academician and ex-Rajya Sabha member Mhaisekar passes away

Veteran academician and former member of Rajya Sabha Govind Ramchandra Mhaisekar passed away due to old age-related ailments last night.

Mhaisekar, a former Vice-Chancellor of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathawada University, breathed his last at this home in Nanded, around 400km from here.

He was 94 and is survived by two sons and as many daughters.

One of his sons, Dilip Mhaisekar, is the current Vice- Chancellor of Nashik-based Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS).

Mhaisekar served as a Rajya Sabha member from 1976 and 1982.

The Marathawada University had awarded him D Litt degree and also honoured him with the Dr Manibhai desai Rashtraseva Award.
 

Rich tributes were paid to him at a condolence meeting organised today in MUHS, a release from MUHS said.
