ACB arrests additional Jt Collector

The Additional Joint Collector of Vizianagaram district was today arrested after assets disproportionate to his known sources of income were discovered in raids on his properties, the Anti-Corruption Bureau said.

Andhra Pradesh ACB Director General R P Thakur said in a release that Kakarla Nageswara Rao possessed several immovable properties in his and kin's names.

He entered government service as a deputy tahsildar in 1990 and rose in ranks to become additional joint collector.

He purchased two plush residential flats under two benami names in Visakhapatnam city and had been staying in them for the past ten years, the official said.

Two houses sites and over 12 acres of agricultural land were found registered in Rao's name, he said.

 

ACB teams also unearthed a flat and a house site in his son's name, a house and vacant site in his mother?s name, three vacant plots and a piece of agricultural land in his daughter?s name in simultaneous raids on properties in Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, West Godavari and Devangiri (Karnataka), according to the release.

The DG said gold ornaments weighing 705 grams and 5.5 kg silver articles, an SUV, Rs 19.91 lakh in bank balances and another Rs 12.75 lakh in fixed deposits were also found.

Fixed deposits in various other banks were yet to be verified, he added.
