ACB arrests PWD engineer for allegedly accepting a bribe

A engineer with the Public Works Department of Palghar district who allegedly demanded and accepted a bribe from a contractor was trapped and arrested by the Palghar unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), official sources said here today.

Additional Superintendent of Police ACB Thane Range, Srinivas Ghadge told PTI that a junior engineer with the Building and Construction sub-division in Jawhar, namely Sachin D Jadhav (35) allegedly demanded of Rs 20,000 from the contractor for clearing his pending bills.

He said that the complainant was a labour contractor and his bills were pending for road works which he had done for the department.
 

After negotiations, it was decided that a sum of Rs 10,000 would be paid to the engineer to clear pending bills of the contractor.

The aggrieved contractor lodged a complaint with the ACB's Palghar unit which laid a trap in the engineer's office and trapped him while accepting the bribe from the complainant, the ACB officer said.

Offences under Section 7, Section 13(1)(d) and Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988, have been registered against the engineer at the local police station, he said.
