Shiv Sena corporator and chairman of of a ward committee of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Hemangi Chemburkar (55) and her personal assistant were today arrested by the anti-corruption bureau while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 16,000.

Chemburkar, corporator from ward no 199 and chairman of F-South and North ward committee, had demanded Rs 25,000 from a hotel owner for not taking action against him on complaint received by the committee, said an ACB official.

Later the amount was negotiated down to Rs 16,000 -- Rs 15,000 for the corporator and Rs 1,000 for the PA.

The hotel owner then contacted ACB which laid a trap and arrested Chemburkar and her PA Rajaram Redkar (28) red-handed while taking the bribe, the official said.
