ACB raid unearths assets worth Rs 8 crore from tax official

"ACB sleuths today raided the residence of Shankarlal Agrawal (52), Deputy Commissioner of Commercial Tax (Enforcement) at Wallfort city here and unearthed disproportionate assets worth nearly Rs 8 crore," Additional Director General of Police, ACB, Sanjeev Pilley told reporters.

The total assets include a two-storeyed building at Wallfort city, a house in new capital (Naya Raipur), LIC insurance worth Rs 48,000, Rs 1.60 lakh cash deposited in bank accounts, plots and immovable assets in different places of Raipur, besides Rs 4.20 lakh in cash which was found at Agarwal's house, Pilley said.

On getting complaints against Agrawal that he had amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, the officials verified it and raided his house, Pilley said.

 

"Until now, we have unearthed property worth around Rs 8 crore, he said, adding that a case has been registered against Agrawal under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act," he said.
