The ACB held Mate from his office in neighbouring Bhandara today for allegedly demanding Rs 50,000 from a contractor for issuing work orders worth Rs 31 lakh. The alleged demand was made on August 7, sources said.

The ACB swung into action after analysing the voice sample, recorded by the complainant, of his conversation with Mate when he had allegedly sought illegal gratification, they said.

During the search conducted at Mate's house in Pratap Nagar area of Nagpur, the ACB recovered Rs 20 lakh in cash.

The CAG audit in 2008 of the Gosikhurd Project had highlighted issues like huge cost overruns.
