Cement major ACC today launched an integrated solid waster resource management through entrepreneurship programme in association with Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation.
Being implemented under Corporate Social Responsibility scheme of ACC, the project is aimed at creating social entrepreneurs who support the corporation in collection, segregation, processing and disposing of waste.
The programme was launched by Corporation Commissioner K Vijayakarthikeyan and ACC Cements Plant Director, Sai Ramesh.
Battery operated carts were handed over to entrepreneurs that will be used for resource recovery in corporation.
Domestic waste collected in each household is segregated under nine categories as per the directive of corporation. Dry waste resource centre is being set up and has been effectively done to dispose waste to recycle vendors, Sai Ramesh said on the sidelines of the launch.
The organic waste would be handed over to compost plants and farmers for conversion to organic manure. Non-recyclable plastic waste are transported to ACC Cement for safe disposal of waste in their cement kilns, he said.
The project also rolled out incentive scheme for waste collectors under the collection and classification of garbage.
It also focused on training and development in solid waste management and in 2016 there were plans to start a 6 month waste to wealth course for aspiring young entrepreneurs, which will create professional social entrepreneurs in the field of solid waste management, Sai Ramesh said.
