Residents of Kharibari in the Rajarhat area of North 24 Parganas today damaged a police vehicle and a truck while protesting against rash driving and an accident in the locality, where a motorcyclist was killed and another person was injured.
Bidhannnagar Police Commissionarate officers said a motorcycle collided head on with a truck laden with bricks, killing a middle-aged person who was yet to be identified, and injuring the pillion rider.
Agitated residents put up a road block after the accident and damaged the truck. Later on when a police patrol vehicle reached the spot, it was also damaged by the angry protesters.
"A large police contingent led by senior officers have been rushed to the spot," said an officer.
In another incident close to the Gopalpur area of Basirhat in the same district, a helper of a mini truck died after the vehicle turned turtle and fell in a ditch along the road, the police added.
