Accident victim awarded nearly Rs 30 lakh as compensation

A local court today directed New India Insurance Company to pay Rs 29,61,950 to a LIC agent who lost his leg in an accident in 2013 at nearby Semmangudi.

Sivaprakasam (24) submitted that he was riding his two wheeler on August 14 2013 when it was hit by a van near Krishnapuram in the district, resulting in amputation of his left leg.

He filed a case against the vehicle owner and New India Assurance company, Karaikal, claiming Rs 30 lakh as compensation.

When the case came up for final hearing today at the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court here, Judge K Purnajayaanand awarded Rs 29,61,950 as compensation payable by the insurance company.
