On the run for almost a year in a kidnapping case, local MLA K K Shrivastava today surrendered before the police.

The BJP legislator was booked on August 22 last year along with four of his supporters for allegedly abducting and thrashing Janpad Panchayat CEO Udayraj Singh. He has been absconding since then.

After his surrender before the Kotwali police station here, Shrivastava was produced before a court that ordered the legislator be sent to jail.

Minutes after his arrest, the MLA petitioned the district judge seeking bail.

His bail application has not come up for hearing yet.

Last year, on July 3, Chief Judicial Magistrate Ramji Gupta had issued arrest warrant against Shrivastava after police failed to nab him.

The MLA's accomplices, BJP district vice president Anil Jain and Kripal Singh are still absconding, while two others - Dipak Shrivastava and Maniram Tiwari - were granted bail.
