Acid attack victim and crusader Laxmi tipped to get award

Acid attack victim Laxmi, whose crusade against acid attacks forced the Supreme Court to ban the open sale of acid in the market as well as noted social worker Kavita Bhattarai who serves leprosy patients will be given this year's prestigious 'Ojaswani Award, it was announced here today.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh will give away the award instituted by the Ojaswani magazine's editor Sudha Mallaiya, at a function here, on January 12.

Besides Laxmi and Bhattarai, the award would be also be given to Karuna Fhutane engaged in bringing change through organic farming, female Dalit entrepreneur Kalpana Saroj, international shooter Rajkumari Rathore, as well as the couple Seema Rao and Deepak Rao who impart training to forces fighting against terrorism.
 

The award carries a cash prize of Rs 11,000, a shawl and a citation.
