Assistant Commissioner of Police Dawood Khan and his son assaulted the four, who were reportedly under the influence of alcohol, for talking loudly in front of his house, they said.

However a complaint was not registered as a compromise was reached between the ACP and students, they said

The city had witnessed an exodus of North Easterners, including students in August following rumours that they would be attacked.

Karnataka government had deputed Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister R Ashoka to Guwahati and other places to assure people that adequate protection would be given them following which many returned to the city.
