Act on complaints of harrassment of women, HM tells police

Government would take stringent action against police officials who fail to register cases of abuse and harassment of women and children, Home Minister K J George said today.

A movement was necessary to create social awareness to prevent harassement of women and children, he told reporters here.

He said the government was committed to providing all possible help to police department."We canot live without policemen, who work hard to maintain law order."

The Government was aware of shortage of staff in the department and was commited to filling vacancies, he said, adding the recruitment process to appoint 8500 police personnel was underway.
