Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President G Parameshwara today said action would be taken against Infrastructure Minister Santosh Lad if allegations of illegal mining against him were proved.

"Congress party will not spare those involved in illegal mining and who have caused loss to the state exchequer .... If allegations against Santosh Lad are proved, we will take action against him," Parameshwara told reporters here.

"It is not right to name someone unnecessarily, we will investigate it," he said.

Accusing BJP of using the issue for political reasons, Parameshwara said, "Lokayukta report came in 2011, BJP was in power then, why didn't they take action in two years."

A delegation of top state BJP leaders had met Governor H R Bhardwaj yesterday and submitted documents related to Lad's alleged involvement in illegal mining and appealed to him to direct the Chief Minister to sack him.

Santosh Lad is in controversy following allegations that the company of which he is the partner was involved in illegal mining.
