As many as 42 police officers may face disciplinary action over letters from ministers, MLAs and politicians recommending their transfers, an official said.

The police headquarters recently received recommendations of transfer of 42 police inspectors.

Procuring such a letter from political leaders to back one's request for a transfer or for any other administrative matter is against the service rules.

Taking a serious view of this practise of procuring letters from politicians to get a transfer to a desired location or department, Rajkumar Vhatkar, Special Inspector General of Police (Establishment), has written to unit heads, seeking clarifications from these 42 officers.

Unit chiefs will forward these officers' clarifications with their own remarks to the Director General of Police's office before February 15.

If the officers fail to inform unit chiefs that he or she had nothing to do with these recommendations, they will face disciplinary action.
