Action in sixth World Cup Kabaddi begins

Hosts India along with 10 other teams will compete for title in the men' section while eight women teams are also in fray in the sixth BR Ambedkar World Cup Kabbadi, that began here today.

In men's event India, Argentina, United States of America, England, Canada, Australia, Iran, Sweden, Tanzania, Kenya and Sierra Leone would compete.

In women's event India, Sieraa Leone, Kenya, United States of America, Mexico, Tanzania, New Zealand and Sri Lanka would clash for the title.

Punjab CM Prakash Singh Badal, while inaugurating the event, said the sports policy had given a major fillip to the sporting activity in the state.
 

The Chief Minister said that as a tribute to the founding father of constitution Bharat Ratna Dr BR Ambedkar the state government has christened the tournament after his name.

The star attraction of the inauguration event, Nooran Sisters mesmerized the audience with their scintillating performance. Likewise, Punjabi singers Jaspinder Narula, Gippy Grewal and Sharry Maan along with Comedian Bharti Singh entertained the audience.

Earlier, Olympian Rajpal Singh, athlete Mandeep Kaur and Kabaddi Icon Gurpreet Singh lit the flame to mark the inauguration. Sri Lankan Petroleum Minister Chandima Veerkoti was the special guest.
