Archbishop of Goa and Daman Fr Filipe Neri Ferrao today stressed on unified action against environmental degradation and irresponsible development.

"Yes, let us recreate the world where peace, understanding, justice and reconciliation will abide amongst human beings. Nations will take unified action against environmental degradation, and irresponsible development. I take this occasion to wish everyone a joyful Christmas," the Archbishop said in the message delivered today on the eve of Christmas.

"This Christmas let us make room for God to change us and through us change the world around us. Cutting across man-made barriers, let us commit ourselves to build a new society wherein everyone would be welcomed, accepted and loved," he said.

The Archbishop said Christmas is first and foremost the feast of joy. "At the deepest level Christmas celebrates the fulfillment of the basic longing of the human heart for God and Christians worldover believe unseen God took human form in Jesus and born on this Earth like an ordinary human being," he said.

"You will never be able to tell how many pages have been written and how many songs have been sung about this great reality. By taking flesh, God elevated our human condition and now calls us to rediscover the divine spark in every other human being, specially in the poor and marginalised with whom he identified himself in an eminent way through his very birth in the stable," the Archbishop said.
