Trade Unions will stage a dharna in front of the government-owned AFT mills here tomorrow, to press their charter of demands.

This was decided at a meeting of the unions, affiliated to the all Trade Unions Action Comnmittee here today, Action Committee President V.S.Abishegam (AITUC) said in a release.

The unions have made a joint plea to Puducherry government to post the Chief Secretary under additional charge as Chairman of the Puducherry Textiles Corporation administering the AFT mills, replacing the present non-official incumbent (a nominated legislator).

The non-official Chairman was having 'heavy workload' and he cannot pay full attention to the running of the AFT mills, the release said.

The joint meeting of the action committee of the trade unions was attended by leaders of INTUC, BMS, CITU, Pattali Thozhilar Sangam and AITUC, among others.

The other resolutions adopted at the meeting wanted disbursement of the gratuity due for several years to retired employees and workers, raising to Rs 15,000 the ceiling for eligibility to get bonus and payment of the outstanding wages for the workers of the AFT mill, the release said.

The leaders also wanted the Puducherry government to seek Rs 500 crore from the Centre for rehabilitation of the AFT mills which had not been functioning since the Thane cyclone lashed the coast in 2011.
