Fifteen peacocks have been killed in Nagaur district of the state this week, an animal rights activist today alleged.

Babulal Jaju, state in-charge of People for Animals, an animal welfare organisation, has alleged that seven peacocks were found dead on May 28 while carcasses of eight others were found on the subsequent day in Chilra village of Nagaur district.

"Peacocks are being killed in different areas but police and forest department officials are taking no effective steps to check it," he said.

Jaju further claimed that everyday 10 peacocks are being killed in the state.

The bird population will drastically drop if the authorities do not take timely action, he said.

The activist has filed a complaint with the district SP demanding action against those behind the crime.

Meanwhile, local police are investigating the matter to ascertain facts.
