Activists held for trying to stage demo

Ten Dalit Viduthalai Katchi activists were arrested today in the city when they attempted to stage a demonstration demanding Rs 15 lakh as compensation to a contingency worker, who lost his life while engaged in cleaning works in rain-ravaged Chennai.

The worker, Palanisamy hailing from Kodumudi in Erode district, died due to asphyxiation while engaged in cleaning works in Chennai a few days ago and the government had sanctioned a solatium of Rs.Four lakh to the family.

Demanding Rs.15 lakh as compensation and also a job to his immediate kin, the DVK activists raised slogans and tried to stage a demonstration near South Taluk Office.
 

However, all of them were arrested, they said.
