ADB sanctions Rs 1300 cr for water, drainage system in Kolkata

Asian Development Bank has sanctioned Rs 1,300 crore for development of water, drainage and sewerage system in the added areas under Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), Mayor Sovan Chatterjee today said.

The fund was sanctioned on June 21, he said while placing a deficit 3021.71 crore budget for the civic body for this fiscal.

He said the civic body would focus on beautification of the city and riverfront.

Referring to the water supply system in the city, Chatterjee said deep tubewells would soon be phased out completely and surface water would be supplied by it to all housing complexes in Kolkata.
