An official statement today said that the flight would come from Kolkata, halt at Aizawl, depart for Guwahati from where it would fly again to Kolkata via Aizawl.
The decision of Air India to withdraw its ATR service in the Aizawl-Guwahati sector came as a surprise as the decision was announced only a few days back and after so many people, including patients taking treatment outside the state and students, had already taken air tickets.
While some officials of the Air India said that the discontinuation of the Aizawl-Guwahati was due to non-payment of subsidies by the North Eastern Council (NEC), NEC officials told media persons in Shillong recently that the Alliance Air service connecting the state capitals of the region was very poor.
