Residents of Noida will by the end of this year receive additional water from the Ganga to counter the poor supply situation in the city, Industrial Development Commissioner and Principal Secretary (industry), Alok Ranjan said today.

He was on a visit to review the progress of development projects in the Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway areas here.

"Uttar Pradesh government is committed to developing the tri-cities of Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway as a model integrated city.

"Noida has ultra hi-tech infrastructure to attract investors to the state," Ranjan said.

The commissioner said that the city would soon get a modern sewage treatment plant.

He said that the solid waste management project was, however, lagging behind as the site selection procedure was facing resistance from residents who had even moved court in the matter.

"As to drinking water, by December, Noida will get additional 80 cusecs of supply from the Ganga," he said. Noida ground water has high total dissolved solids (TDS) content.

Noida presently gets 20 cusecs of Ganga water which is then mixed with groundwater in different proportions.

Among the projects reviewed by the commissioner were the Night Safari, Metro Rail project between Noida and Greater Noida and the Botanical Garden and Kalindi Kunj line, Transport Nagar, Inter State Bus Terminal and the city bus service.
