After FCI's decision not to procure wheat from Haryana, the state government today said it has made adequate arrangements for wheat procurement and there will be no inconvenience to farmers in the upcoming kharif marketing year.

State government along with its procuring agencies -- Hafed, Haryana Warehousing Corporation, Haryana Agro Industries Corporation and Confed -- will procure the entire stock of wheat in Haryana on behalf of the Centre, state Food and Supplies Department Spokesperson said.

"As far as farmers are concerned, nothing has changed for them except that FCI will not be part of procuring agencies this year. This will not cause any difference and inconvenience to the farmers," he claimed.

Food Corporation of India (FCI), Centre's nodal procurement agency for procurement of foodgrains, used to procure wheat from the state along with state agencies.

Last year FCI procured 12 per cent of the total arrival whereas the balance 88 per cent was procured by the State government and its agencies, the spokesperson added.

But he added that Central government will pay administrative and other charges for the procurement of wheat as per the existing practice even though, FCI has divested itself from the responsibility of procurement in the state. further said.

The procurement by the State Government and its agencies is done on behalf of the Union Government for the Central Pool and the Centre reimburses administrative and other cost incurred on the procurement and its storage through FCI, he said.
