Young Indian golfer Aditi Ashok is all set to add another feather to her cap as she tees off at the LPGA CME Tour Championship at the Tiburon Golf Club here tomorrow.
The 19-year-old Indian, who is in her Rookie year on the LPGA, was one of the last to get into the 72-player field and is one of the eight rookies to make it to the Tour Championships.
She will tee off alongwith Iceland's Olafia Kristindottir and American Tiffany Joh in the first round.
Grabbing a late flight to US after finishing the Hero Women's Indian Open, Aditi said, "To have the opportunity to play the LPGA CME Tour Championship as a rookie feels great because the field is the best of the best."
Winner of three Ladies European Tour titles in a span of about 12 months, Aditi, who had a very creditable Rookie season on the LPGA, added, "Coming off a win in Abu Dhabi and a top 15 finish in the Indian Open adds to my confidence going into this week."
She was very appreciative of the way the course has been prepared ahead of the event.
"The course is in great shape even though Hurricane Irma hit it pretty bad. The greens are fast and true which I like. The key would be to keep hitting fairways and greens," said Aditi, who finished T-13 while trying to defend the Hero India Open title.
After 32 official events across 15 countries, the 2017 LPGA season culminates with this week's CME Group Tour Championship.
The year saw 22 different winners from eight countries and now they are fighting for the season-ending awards, including the Race to the CME Globe and Rolex Player of the Year honors, are still up for grabs.
The Race to the CME Globe is a season-long points competition in which LPGA members accumulate points in every Official LPGA Tournament.
Following the Blue Bay LPGA, the top 72 LPGA members, as well as any non-member winners and alternates, in the Race to the CME Globe points standings were seeded into the Championship field.
For the top five players, it's easy win the CME Group Tour Championship and take home USD 1 million. However, the top 12 in the points race all have a mathematical chance to take the title of Race to the CME Globe Champion and win the coveted check.
Going into the CME Group Tour Championship, Lexi Thompson leads the Race with 5,000 points. Sung Hyun Park, who has already clinched Rolex Louise Suggs Rookie of the Year honors, sits in second with 4,750 points.
Rounding out the top five, who control their own destinies at Tiburn, are newly minted World No. 1 Shanshan Feng (4,500), So Yeon Ryu (4,250) and Brooke Henderson (4,000).
